James Buchanan is a registered U.S. patent attorney whose practice includes drafting and prosecuting design and utility patents. He earned his J.D. from Duke University School of Law and holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. James’s technical expertise includes refrigeration systems, medical devices, mechanical and electrical systems, and software. In his practice, James utilizes his technical expertise and years of IP experience to advise clients on global patent portfolio management, enforcement, and strategy, as well as on design patent strategy and their interplay with brand protection. He enjoys working with clients to develop comprehensive patent and brand protection, and his approach emphasizes understanding clients’ business goals to deliver tailored IP solutions that foster business growth. When he’s not working, you can find him biking, reading history, and spending time with his family. James is admitted to practice in Colorado, Washington D.C., and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
